Google Ads management for Gold Coast tradies
Google Ads for Gold Coast tradies
Search campaigns built around the jobs you actually want, landing on pages that turn the click into a call or an enquiry, then followed through to quoted and won work.
No obligation. A short written plan built around your business.
Where the budget goes
Tradie Google Ads accounts tend to leak in the same five places
Google Ads is not hard to switch on. It is hard to run well. When an account “doesn’t work” for a trade business, the cause is commonly one of these, and often more than one.
The wrong searches
Broad match with no negative keywords shows a plumber’s ad to people looking for plumbing jobs, plumbing courses, DIY videos and the price of a tap. Every one of those clicks costs the same as a real customer.
The wrong area
A radius drawn around a postcode is not a service area. It quietly includes suburbs you will not drive to and leaves out ones you would, and it treats a search from a Brisbane commuter the same as one from Burleigh.
A generic page after the click
The ad promises hot water repairs. The click lands on a homepage that talks about the whole business. On a phone, in a hurry, the person leaves before they find the number.
Tracking that counts the wrong thing
Clicks and “conversions” that include every page view, or a form that fires a conversion whether or not anything was sent. The report looks fine. The diary does not.
Optimising toward clicks
If nothing tells Google which enquiries were worth having, it optimises for whatever it can see. That is often volume. The account gets busier and the quotes do not.
How it works
From the search to the job, one connected line
A Google Ads account on its own can only see the click. The stages after it decide whether the spend was worth it, so we run them together.
- Search intentSomeone on the Gold Coast searches for the work you do. The words they use tell you how urgent it is and how much it is likely worth.
- Google AdsA Search campaign structured by service and intent, with the keywords, negatives, suburbs, bids and ad assets managed around those jobs.
- Service pageThe click lands on a page about that service, built for a phone, with the call and the form both one tap away.
- Call or formThe enquiry happens. Both paths are measured, and the form is confirmed as sent before anything counts it.
- Tracking and attributionThe click identifier and source travel with the enquiry, so it can be matched back to the campaign and the keyword that produced it.
- LC FlowThe enquiry lands in LC Flow, our lead response tool, with an alert. First seen and first action are recorded, then it moves through Contacted, Quoted and Won or Lost.
- Back to the campaignQuoted and won outcomes can be sent back to Google Ads as offline conversions when the integration is connected and enabled, so the account learns from jobs rather than clicks.
What we actually manage
Eight parts of the account, and what each one is for
A managed account is not a set-and-forget campaign with a monthly invoice. These are the parts that get built, watched and changed, and the reason each matters for a trade business.
Campaign strategy and structure
- Campaigns split by service and by intent, so an emergency repair and a planned installation never share a budget or a bid.
- Search is usually the base: clear intent, visibility of the searches you pay for, and control over service and suburb. Performance Max is considered when there is a clear goal, measurement we trust, assets and signals that make sense, and a reason to reach beyond Search.
- Budget allocated toward the services with the best job value and capacity, not spread evenly across everything you do.
Keywords, match types and negatives
- Keyword research based on how people on the Coast actually describe the job, not the trade’s own terminology.
- Match types chosen per keyword from the intent behind it, the data available and the bid strategy in use. Exact, phrase and broad each have a job; broad runs with clean conversion signals, Smart Bidding, negatives and search-term reviews behind it, and no match type is adopted as a default without that context.
- Negative keyword lists built before launch and grown from every search-term review, so jobs, courses, DIY, wages and supplier searches stop costing you money.
Geographic targeting
- Targeting built from the suburbs you genuinely service, with travel time in mind, rather than a radius around your address.
- Location exclusions for the areas you will not travel to, and a deliberate decision about the Brisbane and Tweed edges rather than an accident of the map.
- Location options set deliberately, not left on the default: Google can reach people in, regularly in, or interested in an area, and where the work needs someone actually on the Coast we narrow to presence, then review where clicks and enquiries really came from.
Ads and assets
- Headlines that match the search and say what the person needs to know: the service, the area, and the next step.
- Sitelinks, callouts and structured snippets for your services, and a call asset so a phone user can ring from the ad.
- A location asset connected to your Google Business Profile where it is verified, so the ad can show your address and reviews.
Landing experience
- A page per service, or per campaign where the intent differs enough, rather than every ad sending people to the homepage.
- Built for a phone first: the number tappable at the top, a short form, the service explained in the customer’s words.
- Page and campaign written together, so the promise in the ad is the promise on the page.
Bidding and budget
- Clean conversion measurement comes first. The bid strategy is then chosen around the objective, the quality of the data and the maturity of the account, and automation is never fed page views, duplicate conversions, unconfirmed button clicks or noisy goals.
- Bid strategies moved toward conversions, and toward conversion value where quoted and won data exists, as the data supports it.
- Budget reviewed against enquiries and quotes, and adjusted with your capacity: more when you can take the work, less when you cannot.
Conversion tracking
- Calls from ads, calls from the page and form submissions tracked as separate conversion actions, each counted once.
- A form counts only after it is confirmed as sent, not when the button is pressed.
- Click identifiers captured and kept with the enquiry, and call tracking added where a business needs to know which calls came from which campaign.
Optimisation and reporting
- Search-term reviews, negative additions, bid and budget changes on a regular cadence, with the reason for each change recorded.
- Reporting in plain English: enquiries, quotes and jobs by campaign, alongside the cost, rather than a page of clicks and impressions.
- The parts that produced quotes get more; the parts that produced clicks get cut.
Built for trades
Not every search is the same job
A trade business rarely sells one thing. The searches behind an emergency call-out, a planned renovation and a commercial fit-out look different, cost different amounts and need different pages. The account should reflect that.
| Kind of search | What it usually looks like | What changes in the account | What the page has to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emergency vs planned | “Emergency plumber Southport” against “bathroom renovation plumber”. | Separate campaigns and budgets; ad schedule and bids that reflect urgency; call assets prominent for the emergency side. | Emergency: the number first, the area, response expectation. Planned: what is involved, examples, a form that asks the right questions. |
| Repair vs replacement | “Hot water system not working” against “new hot water system installed”. | Different keywords and negatives so a repair search never triggers an installation ad; different value expectations in bidding. | Repair: reassurance and speed. Replacement: options, what affects the price, why to choose you. |
| Small job vs high-value project | “Fix a leaking tap” against “house rewire” or “full landscaping design”. | Budget weighted toward the project searches you want more of; small-job searches kept only where they fill gaps and lead to bigger work. | Project pages need proof, process and a quote request; small-job pages need a quick, low-friction way to book. |
| Residential vs commercial | “Electrician near me” against “commercial electrician Gold Coast” or “body corporate”. | Commercial terms in their own campaign with their own ads and negatives, so a homeowner search does not spend the commercial budget. | Commercial pages speak to a manager or a builder: compliance, scheduling, invoicing. Residential pages speak to a homeowner. |
How far this goes depends on your trade, your service mix and your budget. A solo operator does not need eight campaigns. A multi-crew business usually needs more than one.
Measurement
The click is the start, not the score
Basic campaign reporting often stops at the first enquiry unless what happened next is connected back. For a trade business the thing that matters happens days later, when the enquiry is quoted and either won or lost. We measure to that point, and eligible outcomes go back to Google Ads when the integration and configuration allow it.
- New enquiry
- Contacted
- Quoted
- Won or lost
Every enquiry keeps its source
Campaign, keyword and click identifier travel with the enquiry into LC Flow, so a quote can be traced to the search that produced it, where the source is available.
Qualified and unqualified, separated
A wrong-number call, a supplier, and a genuine request for a quote are not the same conversion. Once they are marked in LC Flow, the report shows what the account actually produced.
Speed to lead, visible
First seen and first action are recorded against each enquiry. A slow follow-up is easy to spot, which matters, because the person searching may well have contacted more than one business.
Outcomes fed back to Google
When the integration is connected and enabled, quoted and won outcomes can be sent to Google Ads Offline Conversions, so bidding can move toward the enquiries that became work rather than every form fill.
Attribution is never perfect. Some people find you through an ad, then come back through Google Maps a week later. We report where the picture is solid and say plainly where it is an estimate.

The page decides whether the click was worth paying for
Google decides who sees the ad. The page decides what they do next. Sending every campaign to a homepage is one of the most common reasons a trade account produces clicks and not calls: the person searched for one specific job and arrived at a page about everything.
We build these pages as part of the account, or work with your existing site where it can carry them. Either way the page is treated as part of the campaign, not a separate project.
- One service per page, described in the customer’s words, with the area you cover stated plainly.
- The number at the top and a short form below it. Some people ring, some will not; the page should work for both.
- Fast on a phone. Someone standing in a flooded laundry is not waiting for a slider to load.
- Real photos and real detail where you have them. Where you do not, honest copy beats stock imagery.
- Built and tracked as part of the campaign, so the page, the ad and the measurement are one piece of work.
Gold Coast
Targeting the Coast the way you actually work it
The Gold Coast is a long, narrow market. A business in Coomera and a business in Coolangatta can share a trade and barely share a customer. The account should be built around where you will drive, not around a circle on a map.
A corridor, not a circle
Many Gold Coast trades service a stretch of the Coast rather than all of it. Targeting is set suburb by suburb, from the northern growth corridor to the southern beaches and the hinterland, and the edges are decided on purpose.
The Brisbane and Tweed edges
Searches from Logan, southern Brisbane and Tweed Heads can trigger Gold Coast ads. Whether they should depends on whether you want that work. We set it deliberately rather than leaving it to the default.
Suburb names in the search
People often search with a suburb or “near me” rather than “Gold Coast”. Ads and pages are written for the way people here actually search, and the Business Profile location asset gives the ad a local address to show.
Ads, Maps and organic together
Google Ads puts you at the top while your Google Business Profile and organic presence are still earning their place. They are different services with different jobs; the value comes from running them so that each one supports the other.
Process
How an account is set up and run
- Audit and planIf you already run Google Ads, we start with what it has produced: not clicks, but enquiries, quotes and what became of them. If you do not, we start with your services, your area and your capacity. Either way you get a short written plan first.
- Foundations before spendConversion tracking, the landing pages and the lead capture go in before the first dollar is spent. An account that starts without them collects nothing useful.
- BuildCampaign structure, keywords and negatives, geographic targeting, ads and assets, bidding and budget, all documented so you can see what was built and why.
- Launch and learnThe first weeks are about clean data: search-term reviews, negatives, bids and budgets adjusted as real searches come in, and the bid strategy reviewed as clean conversion data builds.
- Optimise and reportRegular reviews, changes recorded, and reporting that shows enquiries, quotes and jobs by campaign. What produces quotes gets more. What produces clicks gets cut.
FAQ
Google Ads questions tradies actually ask
How much should a tradie spend on Google Ads?
Enough to produce a steady number of real enquiries so the account has data to improve on, and no more than your capacity can turn into quotes. We work it backwards: what a typical job is worth to you, how many enquiries it takes to win one, and how many jobs you can take on. That gives a starting budget for your trade and area rather than an industry figure, and it gets adjusted once real searches and enquiries come in.
Are Google Ads worth it for tradies?
They can be, because people searching “electrician Burleigh” or “emergency plumber near me” are often ready to book. Whether it is worth it for your business depends on the value of the jobs, how competitive the search is, and whether the page, the tracking and the follow-up are in place. Run without those, the account tends to produce clicks and not much else. That is a common pattern.
How quickly can Google Ads produce enquiries?
Ads can show for high-intent searches from the first day, so enquiries can begin early. What takes longer is making them consistent and affordable: the first weeks are spent cutting wasted searches, adjusting bids and budgets, and giving the bid strategy clean conversion data to work from. We do not promise a timeframe, because it depends on your trade, your area and your budget.
Google Ads or SEO: which should a trade business do first?
They do different jobs. Google Ads can put you in front of high-intent searches straight away and can be switched up or down with your capacity. SEO and your Google Business Profile build a presence that keeps working without a click cost, but they take time. Many trade businesses benefit from both; which one starts first depends on how urgently you need work and what is already in place.
Should my ads send people to my homepage or a dedicated page?
Usually a dedicated page for the service in the ad. It earns its place when the search is specific, when the homepage covers too much, and when the promise in the ad needs to continue on the page: someone who searched for hot water repairs wants a page about hot water repairs, with your number and a short form. If an existing page already answers that search well, it can do the job. Either way the ad, the page and the tracking are built as one piece, which is where the account gets its data from.
Do you use Performance Max for trade businesses?
When it has a job to do. Search is usually the base for a trade business: you can see the searches you pay for and control the keywords, negatives, services and suburbs. Performance Max comes into the picture when there is a clear conversion goal, measurement we trust, assets and audience signals that make sense, and a reason to reach beyond Search. It is decided per account, not applied as a default either way.
How are Google Ads leads tracked, and how do I know which became jobs?
Calls and form submissions are tracked as separate conversion actions, and a form counts only once it is confirmed as sent. Each enquiry lands in LC Flow with its source and click identifier attached, then moves through Contacted, Quoted and Won or Lost as you work it. That is what lets the report show quotes and jobs by campaign, not just conversions, with the limits of attribution stated plainly.
I already run Google Ads. Can you take over the existing account?
Yes. We start by reviewing what the current campaigns have produced, in enquiries and quotes rather than clicks, and what is missing in the structure, tracking and pages. Useful history is kept; a rebuild only happens when the evidence supports it. Often the biggest gains come from the page, the tracking and the follow-up before the campaigns themselves.
What is the difference between Google Ads and Google Business Profile?
Google Ads is paid: you bid to appear for searches you choose, and you pay per click. Google Business Profile is the free listing that appears in Maps and local results, earned through relevance, reviews and consistency. They work best together; the profile can also power the location asset on your ads, and the two are managed as separate services.
